Practice Areas

Marvin, Chorzempa & Larson, P.C. represents design and construction professionals and individual clients in a variety of legal matters, including the following:

Architect and Engineer Professional Liability

Architects, engineers, and other design and construction professionals who have been accused of malpractice face challenges that are unique and different from other forms of malpractice.  The design and construction industry is highly specialized, and these cases often involve complex relationships between many parties that were involved on a particular project.  Professional liability accusations can arise from many situations on both the design and construction ends of the project, such as retaining walls collapsing, inadequate or unsafe plumbing or wiring, malfunctioning equipment, improper preparation and/or implementation of specifications or drawings, and improper professional judgment.  These cases are often complex and may involve multiple defendants and millions of dollars in claimed damages.  Our attorneys have particular expertise in successfully resolving professional liability cases, whether it is an individual claim against the design professional or whether it is an insurance defense matter.

If someone has accused you or your company of malpractice, you need attorneys with a thorough understanding of the design and construction business.  At Marvin, Chorzempa & Larson, we focus on the design industry.  We have extensive experience both in defending malpractice cases at trial and through alternative dispute resolution methods including arbitration, mediation, and settlement negotiations.

Full-Service Design Community Representation

In addition to our specialized professional liability defense practice, we provide our design and construction clients with business representation.  There are different types of corporations, partnerships, limited liability partnerships, and limited liability companies, and your selection of the type of entity will have tax and legal liability implications.  We assist you in determining the appropriate choice of entity for your business and in registering your business with the Secretary of State.  We also negotiate and draft contracts; negotiate, draft and review lease agreements; and represent clients in collections and general civil litigation matters.

Construction Defects

Occasionally, commercial buildings (large and small) and homes suffer severe damage due to a construction or design defect.  Our extensive experience in representing members of the construction and design industry provides us with insight into construction defect matters, and allows us to better represent our clients.  We assist our clients with:

  • Identifying experienced and qualified construction experts and engineers to evaluate the problem, suggest repair options and provide an estimate of costs;
  • Ensuring that pre-litigation notice requirements are appropriately followed;
  • Working with our clients and experts on emergency repairs during the litigation process; and
  • Negotiating a resolution without the need for litigation, or, in the event a satisfactory resolution cannot be negotiated, meticulously preparing for trial and aggressively advocating on behalf of our client at trial.

Consumer Products Liability

Products liability includes cases where defective products cause serious injury or death.  Products can be defective in their design, manufacture, or in the warnings and instructions that come with a product.  Products liability cases are often highly complicated; they often require consultation with experts and extensive technical analysis.  Marvin, Chorzempa & Larson, P.C. represents clients in consumer products liability cases.  If you or a loved one has been injured by a vehicle as a result of any defect, or other product failures, contact Marvin, Chorzempa & Larson, P.C. for assistance.
