Serving The Design and Construction Community

Marvin
Chorzempa &
Larson P.C.

History

Marvin Chorzempa & Larson, P.C., was founded in 1990 as James H. Marvin P.C.. From its foundation, the firm has focused on the legal needs of the design community. Our founding partner, Jim Marvin, was instrumental in drafting amendments to ORS 279C that solidified the role of design professionals in public work.

In 1997, Janelle Chorzempa became a partner and the firm became known as Marvin Chorzempa & Associates. At that time Janelle had already been a practicing, registered architect for 17 years. Her addition cemented the firm’s emphasis on providing legal services to the design and construction communities.

In 2003, Jon Larson was added to the firm’s title and ownership, and the firm assumed its current name. Jon now has over 25 years of litigation experience, the vast majority of which involves construction defect litigation.

Jim Marvin retired in 2012, followed by Janelle Chorzempa in 2015, but the firm retains their names in recognition of their years of hard work building our reputation and practice.

MC&L continues to seek out attorneys with backgrounds in the design and construction communities to maintain and further foster our intentional emphasis on providing the best possible legal services to the design community.

Approach

At Marvin Chorzempa & Larson, we work with our clients as a team. We recognize that, despite our experience, our clients bring special knowledge to the table and are an essential part of our advocacy. Our practice of promoting two-way communication ensures that our clients are able to make decisions based upon the best information.

Our attorneys are dedicated to providing the highest level of legal representation to our clients and to serving our community. To facilitate this, all of the firm's attorneys participate in continuing education classes, professional organizations, and are active in our community. While our firm primarily engages in construction defect litigation, arbitration, and mediation, we also assist clients in legal risk management, business formation and contract drafting and negotiation.

At Marvin Chorzempa & Larson, we take our role in the overall design community very seriously. We view ourselves not only as advocates to our actual clients, but also counselors to the community as a whole. In furtherance of this goal, we regularly participate and support both the AIA Portland Chapter and ACEC Oregon. We have advised these groups on legislative matters, presented seminars on legal issues and sponsored events.
